The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) organized the ACCCIM’s Science, Technology and Innovations (STI) Competition Prize Giving Ceremony and Showcase of Winning Projects on 15th August 2019. The Prize Giving Ceremony was presided by Tan Sri Dato’ Lim Kuang Sia, Deputy President of ACCCIM. The main objective of the competition is to enhance the interest and inculcate the spirit of innovation and creativity in school students. The competition was opened to all Chinese Independent High Schools and SMJK schools for participation.
Competition entries were based on Science, Engineering and Technology. The entry can be submitted by an individual student or a team of not more than three students. The entry shall be from one of the following nine categories: i.e. Life Sciences (Biology, Botany, Food Science, etc.), Physical Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Astronomy, etc.), Medical and Health Sciences, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Computer Science and Information Technology, Mathematical Sciences, Behavioral & Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Sciences. The competition was opened for registration from January 2019 and project entries were submitted to ACCCIM Secretariat by 14th June 2019. There were 232 applications received by ACCCIM submitted by fourteen (14) Chinese Independent High Schools, six (6) SMJK Schools and one (1) Vocational College (special case) as follows:

Judges for short listing round were Associate Professor Dr. Yong Thian Khok, Assistant Professor Dr. Steven Lim, Assistant Professor Ts. Dr. Tee Shiau Foon, Assistant Professor Dr. Lim Boon Han, Assistant Professor Dr. Tham Mau Luen, Assistant Professor Dr. Kwan Ban Hoe, Assistant Professor Dr. Chee Pei Song, Assistant Professor Dr. Chang Yun Fah, Assistant Professor Dr. Goh Yong Kheng and Ts. Phua Yeong Nan. A total of 10 participating teams were selected for the final round and were invited for final presentation by judges on 6th July 2019 at ACCCIM. Judges for final round were Ir. Academician Datuk Hong Lee Pee, Professor Dr. Ir. Ewe Hong Tat, Professor Dr. Ir. Lee Sze Wei, Academician Emeritus Professor Dr. Yong Hoi Sen, Academician Professor Dr. Ho Chee Cheong and Associate Professor Yong Thian Khok. The winners are as follow:

Apart from receiving cash prize, certificate and trophy from ACCCIM, winning teams will be granted opportunity to conduct short term internship in companies or higher learning institutions, to participate at Kuala Lumpur Engineering Science Fair (KLESF) 2019, and to be nominated for international competition. This year, ACCCIM recommended SMJK Jit Sin from Penang, which was the 2nd Prize winning teams in 2018 to represent Malaysia to participate in the 5th ASEAN Student Science Project Competition (ASPC) 2019 held on 21st July to 27th July 2019 in Thailand. We are happy to inform that this team has won the second prize in Applied Science category for Malaysia glory. Heartiest congratulations and well done to the winning team from SMJK Jit Sin from Penang.
