ACCCIM STI Competition 2020 Result Announcement

The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) organized the ACCCIM’s Science, Technology and Innovations (STI) Competition Final Presentation on 19th September 2020. The main objective of the competition is to enhance the interest and inculcate the spirit of innovation and creativity in school students. The competition was opened to all Chinese Independent High Schools and SMJK schools for participation.

Competition entries were based on Science, Engineering and Technology. The entry can be submitted by an individual student or a team of not more than three students. The entry shall be from one of the following nine categories: i.e. Life Sciences (Biology, Botany, Food Science, etc.), Physical Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Astronomy, etc.), Medical and Health Sciences, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Computer Science and Information Technology, Mathematical Sciences, Behavioral & Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Sciences. The competition was opened for registration from January 2020 and project entries were submitted to ACCCIM Secretariat by 14th August 2020. There were 132 applications received by ACCCIM submitted by sixteen (16) Chinese Independent High Schools and one (1) SMJK Schools as follows:

Judges for short listing round were Dr. Chee Pei Song, Mr. Danny Ng Wee Kiat, Dr. Tham Mau Luen, Dr. Steven Lim, Dr. Koo Chai Hoon, Dr. Khor Kok Chin, Dr. Yew Ming Chian, Dr. Goh Yong Kheng, Dr. Tee Shiau Foon, Dr. Ng Law Yong, Dr. Ting Chen Hunt, Dr. Lee Yong Hong, Dr. Lee Ying Loong and Dr. Yew Ming Kun. A total of 8 participating teams were selected for the final round and were invited for final presentation by judges on 19th September 2020 at ACCCIM. Due to the restrictions of the Movement Control Order, students from SMJK Tong Hua from Sarawak were given the opportunity to do their final presentation virtually.

Judges for final round were Professor Dr. Ir. Ewe Hong Tat, Professor Dr. Ir. Lee Sze Wei, Academician Emeritus Professor Dr. Yong Hoi Sen, Academician Professor Dr. Ho Chee Cheong and Associate Professor Dr. Yong Thian Khok. The winners are as follow:

Apart from receiving cash prize, certificate and trophy from ACCCIM, winning teams will be granted opportunity to conduct short term internship in companies or higher learning institutions, to participate at Kuala Lumpur Engineering Science Fair (KLESF) 2021, and to be nominated for international competition.

Congratulations to all the winning teams, and hope that all the participants who were not able to win will make persistent efforts and comeback next year.

Leader of the winning team, Fong Wee Kun, introduced the Durability Test Machine for testing “Crabtastic”.

Students from SMJK Tong Hua, Sarawak made presentation on their prototypes virtually to all judges.
