ACCCIM’s PRESS STATEMENT ON COURTESY VISIT ON YAB PRIME MINISTER

Dato’ Low Kian Chuan, President of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) led a 7-member ACCCIM delegation to meet with YAB Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob, Prime Minister of Malaysia at the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya to discuss issues of concerns concerning the Malaysian economy and business community.

We had a frank, cordial and informative discussion on current economy and business issues and challenges. Dato’ Low Kian Chuan said Malaysian economy is on the path to recovery in 2022 amid headwinds ahead. Domestic companies and businesses are eager to pivot to the recovery phase and returning to vitality with the continued support of the Government.

ACCCIM sees the needs for continued support for businesses, especially SMEs during the recovery phase to ensure that they are able to get back firmly on their feet. Amid the continued vigilance against the threat of Omicron variant, there remain outstanding economic and business issues that require close attention by the Government policy makers to facilitate recovery.

6 Economic and Business Issues addressed by ACCCIM were as follows:
(a) SHORTAGE OF WORKERS
(b) RISING COST PRESSURES AND INFLATION EXPECTATIONS
(c) BOOSTING DOMESTIC DIRECT INVESTMENT (DDI)
(d) CREDIT FACILITIES
(e) DEEPEN CHINA-MALAYSIA’S ECONOMIC AND TRADE TIES
(f) FLOOD PREVENTION, PROTECTION AND MITIGATION

YAB Prime Minister took note of the issues raised, and every deserving proposal will be given due consideration. He also welcomes the constructive inputs and suggestions proposed by the ACCCIM and suggested more frequent engagement sessions with the chamber to discuss on the economic and business issues concerning the nation as well as business community at large.

President Dato’ Low said that ACCCIM would certainly continue to work closely with the Government and agencies in providing feedback on the ground in ensuring the implementation of public policies achieve better outcomes.

The ACCCIM delegation included Tan Sri William Cheng, ACCCIM Life Honorary President, Datuk Ng Yih Pyng, ACCCIM Deputy President, Dato’ Looi Hei Tyng, ACCCIM Vice President, Dato’ Tan Tian Meng, ACCCIM Secretary General, Mr. Koong Lin Loong, ACCCIM Treasurer and Mr. Lee Heng Guie, Executive Director of ACCCIM SERC.
