Tan Sri Ter Leong Yap, President of The National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM) and President of The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM), attended the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) opening ceremony and high-level conference today, where Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote address in front of heads of governments, high-ranking officials and representatives from international organisations. Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad also delivered a speech at the conference.
“We are encouraged by the far-reaching impact of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) across the world, particularly sustainable developments in the developing countries. Through key areas of cooperation including policy coordination, infrastructure connectivity, trade and investment enhancement, financial integration and people-to-people bond, BRI is expected to set new benchmarks for mutually beneficial international economic cooperation,” observed Ter.
He added, “In his keynote address, President Xi stated that China is planning to implement a series of major reforms and initiatives, particularly in expanding the entry of foreign investments into various sectors. Furthermore, China will also increase the imports of goods and services on a larger scale, create more opportunities and enlarge markets. In the long run, pragmatic cooperation will boost economic development across the region.”
2019 marks 45 years of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, and the BRI is set to further enhance and strengthen friendship and economic cooperation.
“NCCIM and ACCCIM will continue to work alongside the government to attract investment and elevate economic cooperation in all sectors.”
